Funeral services for Rose Mary Myres Matthews were held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Services were held at Rose- Neath Funeral Home in Logansport, Louisiana with burial following in Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens in San Augustine, Texas. Rose Mary was born on December 29, 1926 to Robert and Rae Baker in Galveston, Texas. Rose Mary met and married Ruben A. Myres at the young age of “16”. Ruben and Rose Mary had three children; Robert A. Myres of Carencro, La., Mary Ollie Richard of Shelbyville, Texas and Alva L. Ellis-Babineaux of Lake Charles, La. During World War II, Rose Mary was one of the original “Rosie Riveters”. She later obtained her degree in Business Administration and worked as an Office Manager in Lake Charles, La. and Center, Texas until her retirement. After she became a widow she met and married Bobby Matthews of Logansport, La., where she became the step-mother to Bobbie Gaye Darden of Bethany, La., Patricia Anderson of Coushatta, La., Tina Matthews of Shreveport, La. and Tammy Gray of Benton, La. Throughout her lifetime Rose Mary enjoyed farming, taking care of her cows and spending time with her grandchildren. It was a common sight to see her operating her tractor and gardening equipment. Rose Mary had six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rae Baker, her first husband Ruben Myres and her granddaughter Tanya Rae Roth.
