
In Loving Memory of Mr. Robert Joseph McGough A memorial service for Mr.Robert McGough, 80 will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7 at the Lake Palestine United Methodist Church in Chandler,Texas. Robert was born in Bastrop,Louisiana on August 26, 1936 to John Lawrence McGough and Minnie Mae Hall McGough and passed away on April 26, 2017 at his home in Flint, Texas. Robert was a retired Louisiana and Texas educator having served as a biology and special education teacher,coach, and administrator. A 1955 graduate of Bastrop High School, Robert played football,earning All-District and All-North Louisiana honors as a fullback.Also, Robert was a member of the track team throwing the javelin.In 1959, Robert earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Northeast Louisiana State University. He continued both sports incollege serving as the track team captain. In 1958, he set the Northeast Louisiana State University record for the javelin and finished third in the Gulf South Conference Track and Field Championships. In 1971, Robert earned his Master’s degree in Education from Mississippi College. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman. During his time in Mansfield, Louisiana he was the owner and operator of Cozy Point,a commercial fishing and campground, located on the Toledo Bend Reservoir .Robert was preceded in death by his parents John Lawrence and Minnie Mae McGough; beloved wife of 59 years Mary McGough;siblings Lawrence, Charles, and David. Robert leaves behind siblings Alice Brent and husband Jim; Margaret Ziegler and husband Robert; Betty King and husband Charlie; Dinky Douglas; and Jeanie Witt and husband Chris; daughter, Nikki Franks and husband, Scott;son, John McGough and wife, Dinky; and son, Keith McGough and wife, Randi; granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth, Lauren, Calli, Sara,Haley, Amy, Brook, and Rebecca; and grandson, Jeremy. Also,Robert has nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Dear Lord,“Thank you for mending my broken places, filling my empty spaces, and healing me with your grace.”
