Betty Cornett

Betty Cornett, 90, of Russellville, formerly of Mansfield, Louisiana passed away on November 4, 2018, at Russellville Nursing Center.

She was born on May 19, 1928, in Calion, Arkansas to Sydney and Bertha Mae Tarbutton Moore.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Leon Cornett; five sisters and three brothers; and one grandson, Lee Barrett Cornett.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harold Cornett Jr. and Paula of Russellville, Arkansas; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Sam Cangelosi of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Katy Bounds, Mary Ann Cangelosi, Ashley Cornett and her fiancé, John Robb, Allison Conder and her husband, Chad; and three greatgrandchildren, Harper Bounds, Cohen Cornett and Blaze Bunch.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2018 at Mansfield Cemetery with Kathy Fitzhugh officiating.

Gene “Jim” Guillotte

Funeral services honoring the life of Gene “Jim” Guillotte, 81, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2018, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Logansport, LA with Rev. Nancy Woffard and Bro. Charles Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery in Bethel Community, LA. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport, LA on Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Jim was born December 18, 1936 in Goliad, TX to Daniel and Lola Mae Ramsey Guillotte and entered into rest on November 4, 2018, in Logansport, LA.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents; sisters, Jane Bass, Talma Arbuckle; brother, Lewis Guillotte; nieces, Kathy Guillotte Houston, LaJuana Arbuckle Smith, Wendy Guillotte; and nephew, Ronny Lafitte.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Jere’ Guillotte; son, Robert Guillotte; daughter, Jennifer Wheless and husband JC; sisters, Marie Lafitte and husband Berle, Dorothy Lafitte and husband Louis; brothers, Douglas Guillotte and wife Martha Jean, Jack Guillotte and wife Betty; grandsons, Ace Wheless, Cash Wheless; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jim was a 1956 graduate of Logansport High School where he proudly wore #52 as a Logansport Tiger. After graduation, Jim joined the United States Marines. Stationed at Camp Pendleton, he worked as a helicopter mechanic assigned to a carrier which took him to the Phillipines and Okinawa, Japan.

After leaving the military, Jim returned home and worked for Southern Natural Gas Company for over 30 years. At the age of 42, he married his wife of almost 40 years and together, they raised their two children.

Upon taking early retirement for medical reasons, Jim used his time to work for the children by being active in Logansport Little League, Band Boosters, Softball Boosters and the Touchdown Club. If there was money to be raised or work to be done, Jim was usually there. He also served as an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 33 where he accompanied many young men on camping trips, canoe trips, and other adventures, always sharing his stories.

In retirement, Jim also became active in the Logansport Lions Club and the Bethel United Methodist Church where he had been a member since his youth. Whatever the activity or the project, Jim was always the “mechanic” or the “builder” behind the scenes figuring out how to turn ideas into reality.

Jim loved life and no matter the circumstances, he always looked for the bright spot and did his best to bring a smile to all he met. He will truly be missed.

Honoring Jim as pallbearers will be Chance David, Kenny Guillotte, Joe Lafitte, Donny Lafitte, Ricky Arbuckle, Rick Wing, Jimmy Arbuckle and Brad Arbuckle. Honorary pallbearers will be his friend Harold Scott, grandsons, Ace and Cash Wheless and all the other nephews and great nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Youth Fund or the Bethel Cemetery Fund.

The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Theda was born December 3, 1933 in Fisher, LA to John and Zarah Law Hayes and entered into rest on November 3, 2018. She graduated from University of Southwestern Louisiana and taught for 25 years for the DeSoto Parish schools. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Mansfield. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher to many.

Preceding Theda in death were her parents; her husband, E.J. Mitchell; and two brothers, James Hayes and Bobby Hayes.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Jerry K. Mitchell of Grand Cane, LA, Elwin C. Mitchell of Bossier City, LA; daughters, Brenda Gayle Mitchell of Mansfield, LA, Sandra Annette Hale and husband Scott of Natchitoches, LA; sisters, Lolette Elaine Mitchell of Robeline, LA, Agatha Sue Ashby and husband Jim of Blanchard, LA; grandchildren, J.R. Mitchell, John Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, Kellye Speer, Matt Hale, Joe Hale, Amy Hale; and five great grandchildren.

Charles M. English

Charles M English passed away on Tuesday, November 20,

2018. He was surrounded by his wife and children in the comfort of his home.

Charles was native to Mansfield, Louisiana, and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1974. He was a graduate of Mansfield High School, USL, and McNeese State University. While in college at USL in Lafayette, he was a 5 year letterman on the USL basketball team. Charles enjoyed sharing many stories of former students, former games, and former coaches. He was the absolute biggest fan of his grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his wife of 50 years Dianne Guy English: his children, Stuart Clifton English and wife Traci, Katy Elizabeth English Doucet and husband Corey: grandchildren, Jacob Paul English, Molly Elizabeth Peveto, and Ethan Pierce Doucet: one aunt Bobbie English of Mansfield; mother-in-law Frances Clifton; brother-in-law Steve Clifton of Wharton, TX; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Karen Clifton: nieces, nephews, cousins.

Memorial service was Sunday, November 25th at Henning Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Pollard Cemetery in Lula in Desoto Parish at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home (7200 Desiard Street, Monroe, LA), Pollard Cemetery (c/o Don Ray English, 4968 Highway 84 East, Mansfield, LA 71052), the Beryl Shipley Mended Hearts Scholarship (UL Development Office, P.O. LUTHER MAX UPCHURCH

Funeral services for Luther Max Upchurch, 94, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Pastor Kathy Fitzhugh and Pastor Jessica Lowe officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Max was born January 9, 1924 in Hilly, LA and on December 11, 2018, he joined his wife, Mary Ann, in their heavenly home. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was the owner and operator of Cotton Boll Grill for 48 years and after retirement, worked at Rose-Neath Mansfield. He loved his family, friends, and farm. His pleasure was growing and giving his vegetables away to special friends. He was a member of Grand Cane United Methodist Church.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Kemp and Velma Upchurch and his sweetheart of 70 years, Mary Ann Upchurch. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tamara Upchurch McKinley, Terri Upchurch Pyles and husband Mike, and Taryn Upchurch Rogers; grandchildren, Amanda Loftin and husband Jeff, Adam Pyles and wife Lyndsey, and Melissa Rogers; great-grandchildren, Grace, Railey, Beaux, Max, Reese, Nathan, Tanner, and Josie Kay; and his nieces and nephews.

Honoring Max as pallbearers will be Mike Pyles, Adam and Max Pyles, Jeff and Beaux Loftin, Nathan Pyles, Tanner Malone, Brett Rowell, Pat McGovern, Dan Scurlock, Pat Dodd, and Kirby Ramsey. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ray Scurlock, Bobby Waddell, Mack Ramsey, Melvin McConnell, Jayson McConnell, and Freddie Martin.

RUBY LEE TEMPLE RAMEY

Stanley, Louisiana

Ruby Lee Temple Ramey, 80, of Stanley, Louisiana, died Saturday, December 15, 2018 in Shreveport, LA after a lengthy illness. She was born April 1, 1938 in Barstow, Texas, to the late Hugh Bryant Lewis and Mamie Turlington Lewis.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Ramey, her son, Terry L. Temple and wife, Vicki of Haughton, LA, her grandsons, Shawn M. Temple and Cody L. Temple, and wife Amanda, and great-grandchildren, Micah, Makena, and Maddox all of Haughton, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Terrell S. Temple, infant son, Tony Temple, sister, Kitty Lewis Chapman, brothers Albert Hugh Lewis and Walter Wayne Lewis.

Ruby was a long-time resident of Stanley, Louisiana where she has lived since 1981. Prior to living in Stanley, she and her husband Terrell lived in Stonewall, Louisiana where they made many lifelong friends. She was primarily a homemaker, but also worked part-time at various retail businesses including Ivey Lumber and Georgia-Pacific.

She loved to cook, paint, travel, and take care of her family. She also loved to play the guitar and sing gospel and bluegrass music. She accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl and loved to share the gospel with others through song. She was loved and will be missed.

Graveside services were held at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Stanley, LA, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018.

RUTH H. JOHNSON

Ruth H. Johnson was born December 18, 1918 in Scottsville near Marshall, Texas. She transitioned into eternity eight days before her 100th Birthday on December 10, 2018.

She was educated in the public school system of Caddo Parish at Central School in Shreveport. She was a diehard Southern University Jaguar. She attended the seventy-fifth homecoming of her alma mater and was honored as one of the oldest alumni. She was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the DeSoto Retired Teachers Association, and Friends of the DeSoto Parish Library.

She married the late Charlie Langston Johnson in the early 1940’s. She was one who never let the right hand know what the left hand was doing. It gave her pleasure and joy to remember others with cards, gifts, and other tokens of her affection. She seemed to have spoiled everyone with her lavish outpouring of love.

She was a committed member of Wesley United Methodist Church for many years. She was very active in the United Methodist Women, The Sunday School. Vacation Bible School, Family Night, and served as chairperson of the Hospitality Committee.

She joins a great cloud of witnesses including her husband, parents, her siblings Willis George Wilson, Sr. and Irvin Percy Tyler, her maternal great grandmother fondly called Mother Gracie and her maternal grandmother Alice Ferguson.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Alyce Tyler, Bridgette Tyler, and Chrystal Tyler-Wishum (Long Beach, CA), cousin Patricia Kessee, her devoted sister-in-law, Miss Emma Gertrude Johnson ( Mansfield), God children Dianne Williams Pratt (Flower Mound), Percy McFarland(Humble, TX, and grand God child, Damien Heard (Baton Rouge, LA.), her church family, friends, and countless former students.

The family received friends on Friday evening at the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Leading the Service of Celebration of her Life on Saturday Dec. 15 were Pastor Anna Morris-Jackson and Former Pastor Jerald Danzell. Honoring her as pallbearers were: Bandon Woodley, Stanley Woodley, Jr., Bobby Holmes, Henry Henderson, Ernel Jones, and Grayson Collins. A repast was served at Wesley’s Fellowship by the Hospitality Committee, chaired by Captain Annette Blue and the United Methodist Women, Mrs. Ethel Lilly, President. The service was entrusted to the Jenkins Funeral Home.

JAMES “JIM” ELKINS, JR.

Jim was born January 16, 1942 in Whiteville, NC. He was preceded in death by baby boy Elkins; his parents, James B. Elkins, Sr. and Ruth Elkins; and sisters, Doris Howard and Edith Fisher.

He is survived by his wife, Gartha Horn Elkins; son, Mark Elkins; daughter, Marilyn McLemore; grandson, Justin Adkinson; granddaughter, Sierra Barlow and husband Charles; sisters, Betty Lane, Peggy White, and especially close members of Garland and Willie Horn families, including a number of nieces and nephews.

Jim was in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1968. After military he worked at AT&T and Lucent Technology and retired after 30 years of service.

Honoring Jim as pallbearers are Clay Marbut, Jerrold Vaughn, Felton Williams, Wes Clark, John Aldridge, Kaleb McClain and Rodney Horn.

TOMMY “T-MAN” GOFF

Services for Tommy Wayne “T-Man” Goff, 81, of Mansfield, Louisiana will be held on Saturday, December 29th at 11:00 AM at Southside Baptist Church in Mansfield. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of service. Interment will follow services at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield.

Tommy was born in Oil City, Louisiana to Abe and Mabel Goff. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of 56 years; sons Darrell and wife Lori, Troy and wife Jennifer, Jason and wife Angelia; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Tommy worked in the oil field industry in his younger years, then found his niche as a power plant operator which he did for many years. He loved watching the LSU Tigers football team and discussing the game with his sons.

Honoring Tommy as pallbearers will be David Caston, Huey Permenter, Wayne Whatley, Paul Walker, Eston Goff, and Ben Goff. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.

RHONDA SIBLEY HUDSPETH

Rhonda Sibley Hudspeth, 55, of Center, passed from this life to the next, Friday, January 4, 2019, at Christus Highland Medical Clinic with her hand held tight to her husband Ryan’s and her eyes fixed wide on the Glory of her Lord.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Don Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Stanley, Louisiana.

Rhonda was born May 25, 1963, in Mansfield, Louisiana, to James Benton Sibley and Susan Bland Sibley. She grew up in the bustling city of Stanley, Louisiana. If you don’t know where that is, it’s just up the way from the Roberts Road past Stanley High School, where she graduated in the top 17 in her class, which included about 17.

She was one of six siblings who grew up learning the value of hard work and love for others from both of their parents. Values that were evident by her and Ryan’s ability to help see their 3 children all the way through college and into the careers that will no doubt help shape and save lives for years to come in the fields of education and medicine.

She married the love of her life, Ryan, on March 31, 1991. They had 28 wonderful years together. In that time, she had many wonderful experiences, adventures, and joys in her life. The greatest possibly being time spent at home with her granddaughters, Lively, Ariella, and Selah.

Time was cut short by her battle with cancer, or as she called it, Bacteria, but for those here who are left for the moment with those fond memories know that time will be restored when we see her again on the shores of Glory.

She is survived by her husband, Ryan Glenn Hudspeth of Center, Texas; daughters, Shelby Wheeler and husband, Nic of Center, Texas, Darby Hudspeth of Center, Texas, Rylee Hudspeth of Center, Texas; granddaughters, Lively Hope Wheeler, Ariella Faith Wheeler, Selah Grace Wheeler; mother, Susan Bland Sibley of Stanley, Louisiana; brother, James Benton Sibley Jr. and wife Jessie of Dubach, Louisiana; sisters, Jackie Sevulvado and husband Dago of Joaquin, Texas, Penny Shepard of Mt. MARTHA ANN MANASCO Timpson, TX

Martha Ann Manasco, 71, of Timpson, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019, in Timpson, Texas. Born July 10, 1947, in Paxton Community, Shelby County, Texas to the late Andrew Ollis Sholar and Ethel Lee (Lewis) Munn. Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Stanley Church of Christ, Stanley, Louisiana.

Martha was raised in Joaquin, Texas. She attended Joaquin High School and completed her GED. She met and married the love of her life, Roy Hershal, and the two spent over 45 years together before his passing. Her favorite past times are those spent serving the lord and spending time with her family. She enjoyed drinking coffee each day and watching Fox News. Martha spent time reading and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of Stanley Church of Christ and loved her church and Lord dearly.

Martha is survived by her children, Patricia Manasco, Cynthia Short and husband James Henry Short Jr., Roy Hershal Manasco Jr.; brothers, Andrew Ollis Sholar Jr. and wife Jenny, John Edward Sholar, Richard Wayne Sholar and wife Scottie; sister, Laura Lynn Rushing and husband Bill; sister-in-law, Mae Sholar; grandchildren, Mable Lee-Ann Cook, Maria Delsocorro Palacios, Zachary James Short; and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hershal Manasco; parents, Ollis Sholar and Ethel Lee Munn; brother, Robert Sholar.

ROBERT “DEE” BROSSETTE

Funeral Mass for Robert “Dee” Brossette, 84, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Matthew Long officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel and visitation will follow from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Dee was welcomed into the arms of our Lord where he now joins rejoins his wife Sara as they begin their dance in Heaven. He was born March 14, 1934 in Shreveport Louisiana and passed away January 11, 2019. He served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Philippine Sea. He built a reputation as a well-known, respected construction superintendent working for Florsheim and Brown Builders, over seeing Airline Baptist Church, Cope Jr. High and Noel Memorial Library at LSUS. However, that reputation was only over shadowed by the Legacy he left behind as a loving husband, father, brother, grand-father to 18 and greatgrandfather to 14. He opened his home to friends and friends of his sons, encouraging many through his kindness and generosity. Dee’s love of gardening, hunting, fishing and love of family he willed to his four sons. He enjoyed his farm where he grew enough food to feed a small town and the lake where he enjoyed time with friends, family and nephew Robert.

Dee was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Sara Rose Brossette; parents, Robert C. and Irene J. Brossette; brother, Bill Brossette; and sisters, Shirley Davis and Rose Marie Elliot. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Chris Brossette and wife Christina, Dennis Brossette and wife Amy, Daryl Brossette and wife Becky, and John Brossette and wife Suzanne; sister-in-law, Sonja Brossette; sisters, Nancy Brossette, Karen Sturm and husband Russell, Kathy Williams and husband Rick, and Denise Brossette; brother, Keith Brossette and wife Bernice; and 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Homegoing Celebration for Felton Turner Jr., 60, will be Sunday, January 20th, 1:30 P.M at the Friendship Baptist Church, 1556 Blunt Mill Road, Grand Cane, Louisiana with Pastor Stanley Blackshire officiating. Interment will follow service at the Friendship Cemetery in Grand Cane.

Mr. Turner departed this life on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at his home in Houston, Texas.

Felton was an avid sportsman and lover of music who lived out his passion as a DJ.

He was a resident of Houston Texas for over 37 years. Mr. Turner was a native of Mansfield Louisiana and a 1976 graduate of Mansfield High School as well as a 1981 graduate of Southern University, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. He was employed for over 36 years in the oil and gas industry, where he retired as a Financial Analyst/Accountant.

He was preceded in death by his father Felton Turner Sr., his mother Mable Hogan Turner, grandparents, and nephews.

Felton is survived by his wife Shelia Rivers Turner of 35 years, his puppy “Angel,” his six siblings Karen T. Miller, Marilyn T. Youngblood, Edwin Turner, Felicia Turner, Susie T. Myres, Stephanie T. Segrest, and numerous relatives and friends that were very dear to him.

Joey was born November 24, 1957 in Texarkana, AR and entered into rest on January 25, 2019 in Shreveport, LA. He was a truck driver by trade and was a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather.

Preceding Joey in death were his father, James L. Welborn, maternal and paternal grandparents Ben and Thelma Welborn and Van & Villa Reid and his precious fur babies Baby & Lady.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Dolly Welborn of Mansfield, La,; his mother, Ruby Jean Welborn of Doddridge, AR; two daughters, Bridget Toups & Bill Campbell of Mansfield, La and Terri Winfree and husband Josh of Converse, La,; son, Raymond Joe Welborn and wife Diane of Doddridge, AR,; brother, Rusty Welborn and Cheryl; grandchildren, Dalton, Hunter, Dakota, Austin and Kelsey; and his fur baby Sissy.

WORD “HOLLEY” WELLS

Word “Holley” Wells, 87, of Baytown, Texas, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at his residence.

Holley was born October 25, 1931 in Longstreet, Louisiana and has resided in Baytown over the past 60 years. He was a graduate of Longstreet High School and attended Louisiana Tech. He was a former private school teacher of math and physical education, and an operator and shift foreman for Arco Chemical Company. He was an active member at Cedar Bayou Grace Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, President of the Longstreet Memorial Cemetery Association. He was Secretary Treasurer of the Baytown Men’s Bowling Association for over 50 years. He was the first and only member of the Baytown USBC Association Hall of Fame. He served as a proud President of the Sterling Ranger Booster Club for almost 10 years. He enjoyed bowling, working cattle, sports and spending time with family. HE WAS THE GREATEST PAPAW IN THE WORLD.

Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his parents, Maidee Word and Robert Homer Wells; two daughters, Laura Ann Spears and Barbara Diane Stratton; two sisters, Janie Bass and Doris McMillan; and a brother, William Wells. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Leaila Dix Wells; son, Robert Wells and wife Tracy; daughter, Darrian Wilcox; grandchildren, Bill Berry and wife Lisa, James Spears and wife Rebecca, Sawyer and Waylon Wells; great-grandchildren, Emma, William and Faith Berry, Romynne and Shiloh Spears; and numerous nieces, nephews and in laws.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2019, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel in Baytown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Immediately following will be a reception in the family room. The family will also have a memorial service at Longstreet Methodist Church in Longstreet, Louisiana, at noon on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. He will be laid to rest in Longstreet Memorial Cemetery.
