

Funeral services honoring the life of Clomar Louis Burr, Sr., 75, were at 10:00 AM Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA where Reverend Larry Wilson officiated. Burial followed at Lee Cemetery in Catuna, LA. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 6:00 till 9:00 PM. Clomar was born on May 22, 1940 in Mansfield, LA to Garthel and Ruth Burr and passed away on April 28, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. Preceding Clomar in death is his mother Ruth Burr and son Jason Warner Burr. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Eaddie May Burr from Ringgold, LA; father, Garthel Burr from Catuna, LA; sons, Clomar L. Burr and wife Sheila from Cassville, MO, Wayne Burr and wife Dee from Catuna, LA; daughter-in-law, Karen Burr from Catuna, LA; sister, Ruth Cormier from Mitchell, LA; 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

J.W. was born on February 14, 1932 in Logansport, LA to Willie and Dosha Spraggins and passed away on April 21, 2016 in Bossier City, LA. Preceding J.W. in death are his parents Willie Robert Spraggins and Dosha Mae Furlow Spraggins. Those left behind to cherish his memory is his sons, Charles F. Spraggins from Plain Dealing, LA, George M. Spraggins and wife Traci from Shreveport, LA, Robert F. Bobbie Vinson Woodard, “Vinson”, a Haywood County North Carolina native, died unexpectedly of natural causes Saturday, May 21, 2016 near his home in Converse, Louisiana. Vinson was 68 years old. Vinson was a man of hard work and a brilliant furniture restoration craftsman. He had a keen sense of humor and a perpetual glint in his eye. Vinson’s passing is sure to conjure up many memorable stories for those who knew him. Vinson was preceded in death by his parents; Bonnie and Leslie Woodard and his wife; Kay Woodard. He is survived by: his siblings; Phyllis Evans of Waynesville NC and Wayne Woodard of Flat Rock NC, sons; Jason Woodard of Waynesville NC, John Woodard of Tucker, GA and Jordan Woodard of Statesboro, GA, and stepchildren; Jennifer Rider of Portland, Oregon, Brian Green of Gainesville, GA, Jonathan Green of Dublin. GA. Funeral Services were held Thursday, May 26th at 11:00 am at Union Springs Baptist Church in Converse, LA. Visitation was Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM.
A Memorial Service for Steve Edwin Bounds will be held at Rock Chapel on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Roy “Thumper” Miller will be officiating. Steve Bounds, age 59, of Logansport, Louisiana passed away on May 25, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 16, 1957 to Charles and Laverne Bounds in Monroe, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, where he met his wife Laura. They married on October 5, 1995 and had one son, Robert “Bobby” Edwin Bounds. Coaching and mentoring young men, especially Bobby, was his passion. Steve and Bobby could be spotted all over DeSoto parish playing baseball, basketball and football. He was also a fan of all Texas athletic teams, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Steve was employed by the Mansfield Historic Site. He co-authored two articles for the magazine “North and South”. Steve also enjoyed the outdoors and Civil War reenacting. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Laura Maupin Bounds; son Bobby; sister Karen Bounds Adolphus (Fred) and nephews Travis, Robert and Luke Adolphus and a host of other family members and friends. Funeral services for Jeb Stuart Lord, Jr., 89, were held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2016 at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA. Rev. Jon M. Lord, Dr. Gevan Spinney, and Dr. Clovis Sturdivant officiated. Interment followed at the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Jeb Stuart "Jake" Lord, Jr., was born on the family farm near Pelican, Louisiana on September 27, 1926 and passed from this life on June 10, 2016. He and his six siblings learned farm work while attending nearby Pelican School. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1943 and joined the Marines that fall when he was 17. After boot camp, he was assigned to the 7th Marine Regiment for the landings at Peleliu on September 15, 1944. He was wounded on Peleliu and spent his 18th birthday onboard a hospital ship. Healed up in time for Okinawa, he was promoted to Corporal and led his own squad in that campaign. Lacking sufficient points to return home at war's end, he was sent with the 1st Marine Division for occupation duties in China. Jake was awarded the Purple Heart, Pacific Campaign with 2 Battle Stars, China Occupation, and World War II Victory Medals, along with the Marine Combat Ribbon. Returning home, Jake married his high school sweetheart, Betty McCullough, on Easter Sunday, 1946. Taking advantage of the GI Bill, Jake enrolled at Louisiana Tech that fall in the Forestry Department. After graduation, he worked in Arkansas for the Dierks Company until 1966. At that time, he was hired by Manville to work in the forestry office in West Monroe until retirement in 1993. Jake once said that he enjoyed every day of his work as a forester. A deacon in the Southern Baptist Church for over 60 years, he also served in church music in several churches as a song leader, choir director, and as a member of a gospel quartet, The Watchmen. Jake was a faithful member of the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church for the past 50 years. His gentle spirit and heart of Christian love impacted the lives of many people. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.S. and Clara Lord, his six brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Matthew Lord. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty McCullough Lord, his children Lyn Lord, Jeb S. Lord, III and wife Becky, Jon Lord and wife Lisa, Gaylord Lord and wife Dianne, and Clayton Lord and wife Lisa. He also leaves grandchildren: Jeanette Johnson, Jesse Lord Johnson, Jacque Dunford, Juli Smith, Amanda Hanegan, Andrea Spinney, Jon S. Lord, Derek Lord, Ryan Lord, Adam Lord, Ashley Hamm, and Sarah Hyatt, and 23 great grandchildren. Memorial services honoring the life of Darren (DJ) Frazier, 25, were at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Wallace Baptist Church, in Wallace, LA. DJ was born on September 29, 1990 to his parents, Darren and Kathy Frazier and went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2016. DJ was known by many and a friend to all. Always kind and affectionate and a true comedian. His magnetic personality and beautiful smile could light up a room. DJ was an avid outdoors man. He loved hunting, fishing, and motor cycles. He was a thrill seeker, adventurer, and fearless in every way. Larger than life. Preceding DJ in death were his paternal grandparents Neal and Ernel Frazier and daughter Isabelle Hope Frazier. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his parents, Darren and Kathy Frazier; maternal grandparents, Roger and Chris Anders; wife Julie Frazier, and numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Dorothy Slay, 63, of Mansfield, LA ascended to her heavenly home on Friday, June 10, 2016 after a very short, but hard fought battle with cancer. Visitation was held on Monday June 13th at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Services were held at 10am Tuesday, June 14th at Rose-Neath Chapel in Mansfield with Rev. Everett Kingston and Thomas Tuck officiating. Interment followed at Prude Cemetery in Stanley, LA. Mrs. Slay was born October 16, 1952 in Ringold, LA. She was a loving wife and mother, known to many as the cake lady for making the best cakes and sweets around. Dorothy was married to her best friend and husband Wain Slay for 44 years. She truly loved everyone and was always there to lend a helping hand. Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Ayres; father, Lester Ayres; brother, Ray Ayres; son, Phillip Slay; three nephews, Joe Ferguson; Chris "Poncho" Ferguson and Tim Ferguson. She is survived by husband Wain Slay, son Michael Slay & wife Lori; two sisters Shirley Ferguson and husband James, Kay Bonnette and husband Garry; one brother David Ayres Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers are Brad Burr, Justin Ferguson, Matthew Ferguson, Kenneth "Spooky" Freeman, John LeBlanc and Steve Melton. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Phillips and Jim Sullivan.
