Virgil Lavirdie Tims

Virgil Lavirdie Tims, age 79, of Carmel, LA, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on October 21, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. Virgil was born on September 11, 1937 in Coushatta, LA to Father James Robert Tims and Mother Ruby Potts. Virgil was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul Tims and BW Fulghum. Virgil is survived by his wife of 60 years Anginita Tims. 3 Sons, Bobby Tims and wife Becky of Stonewall, LA., Dewayne Tims and Bretta Joncas of Bossier City, LA, Scotty Tims and wife Brandi of Morringsport, LA.. And only daughter, Ramona Ewing and husband Donnie of Carmel, LA. Sister Laura Jane Ainsworth of Pearl, MS and brother JD Hickman. Virgil has 9 grand blessings and 6 great grand blessings, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Virgil was a Veteran of the USAF Special Services, he worked many years in Feed Mill Operations as a laborer then supervisor of Purina, SFA, Charles’s Feed and Seed, and Keithville Co-op. As Deacon of Carmel BC his last few years centered around the needs of his church and sharing the goodness of Jesus with family and friends. Virgil was not only a respected patriarch of his family but also his community. He always had the coffee pot on and was willing to help anyone who needed it. More times than not you could find him on the back porch talking to the Lord several times a day. His quick wit, keen sense of humor, and practical jokes kept everyone on their toes. Virgil loved his wife, children, and grandchildren more than life itself. He was not only a friend to the people in his community, but to every stray dog that stepped foot in his yard. He loved his dog’s Freckles, Baby Girl and Stray and in turn they loved him. Oh and let’s not forget his multitude of humming birds. Anyone who knew Virgil knew he loved to garden. It was once said he could grow peas on an asphalt road and potatoes on a rock. And he never saw a flower he didn’t love. Services were at Rose-Neath Chapel in Mansfield. Visitation was Monday October 24th 5-8 pm. Service celebrating his life was Tuesday Oct. 25th at 2pm. Officiating was Dr. Thumper Miller of FBC Mansfield. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Christus Highland Cancel Center, Carmel BC, The Gideon’s, or ASPCA. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and other care givers of Christus Highland Cancer Center, Hospice and hospital for all their care and encouragement as well as all the family and friends who kept prayers going, visits, cards and phone calls.

Mass of Christian Burial for Edris "Mimi" Barrilleaux Flores will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1009 Hwy 346, Pelican, LA with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Matthew Long, Pastor of St. Joseph in Mansfield will serve as the Celebrant. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 5:30 PM on Friday, November 11, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rambin. Mrs. Edris, a resident of Lafayette, was the wife of the late Louis B. Flores, and daughter of the late Harry Adrian Barrilleaux and the former Lorena Blanco Barrilleaux. She was a Dietitian for 13 years at Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, LA and attended Northwestern University in Natchitoches, LA. "Mimi" is survived by five daughters, Brenda Flores, Marcia Pierret (husband John), Sheila Miller (husband Cody), Wanda McCollum (husband Scott) and Andrea Martinez (late Kenneth Martinez); eight grandchildren, Jason Pierret (wife Dawn), Justin Pierret, Ashley Pierret Panfil (husband Matt), Sean Miller, Megan Martinez, Scott "Scotty"McCollum, Erin Miller and Carley McCollum and five greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Flores and brother Harry "Buddy" Adrian Barrilleaux, Jr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and visiting hours will continue on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of service.Pallbearers will be John Pierret, Cody Miller, Scott McCollum, Sr., Jason Pierret, Justin Pierret, Sean Miller and Scotty McCollum, Jr. The family wishes to express special appreciation to Harbor Hospice nurses, doctors and especially Kim Chiasson, Katelyn Borissov, Kari Purser and Makeyta Anderson for your care and love. Mrs. Correa Lee Peoples Holmes, 104, will be funeralized at Noon, Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Eastside COGIC in Mansfield, LA. A wake will be held Friday, November 18, 6-8pm at Shiloh B.C. in Mansfield. Mrs. Holmes passed away on November 10, 2016 at Willis Knighton Hospital. Mrs. Holmes was born to the Late Harold and Annie Robinson Peoples on April 26, 1912. Married on Christmas day in 1937, she was the wife of the Late Columbus Holmes, Jr. for over 65 years. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 70 years where she was a dedicated Usher. After years of being a Caretaker, Mrs. Holmes became a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, sharing her wisdom, encouraging others, and enjoying the company of loved ones. She leaves to cherish her memory: Children, Rebecca Paul, Alfred Holmes, and Bobby Holmes, Sr.; Siblings, Lizzie Peoples and Cero Peoples; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Graveside services for Lucille Stalder McDonald, 102, of Bullard, Tx. were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at Grand Cane Cemetery where Jimmy Price officiated. Visitation was at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA on Nov. 11, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.. After lunch, everyone gathered for the burial at Grand Cane Cemetery, Grand Cane, La., under the direction of Roseneath Funeral Home of Mansfield, La. Mrs. McDonald died Nov. 9, 2016 in Tyler, TX. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Converse, La. She was born Oct. 10, 1914 in Nowata, Oklahoma to James Gillespie and Elizabeth Inez Hayes Stalder. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Audley D. Maxwell and her second husband, Edwin Dean McDonald, three brothers, Lewis Stalder, Paul Stalder, and Ted Stalder; one sister, Thelma Stalder, and one grandson, Archie D. Martin, Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Jimmye Maxwell Martin, Edwina McDonald Watkins, and Patsy McDonald. She is also survived by one sister, Nancy Stalder Miller; and a brother, Joseph Daniel Stalder. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and several nephews. She came to Texas from Nowata, Oklahoma in July 1931.

Mr. Garner was born April 7, 1964, in Key West, Florida, to James Burton Garner and Bonlean West Garner. He was a member of Toledo Bend Baptist Church. Richard Max Trisler, Jr.

Richard Max Trisler, Jr. passed away on November 18, 2016, following a short illness. He was born on August 21, 1947 in Flagstaff, AZ. He was predeceased by his parents Richard Max Trisler, Sr. and Mary Janet Verkamp Trisler; his brother, John Charles Trisler, two sisters, Mary Janet Trisler and Catherine Irene Trisler and one son, Christopher Glenn Trisler. He is survived by his wife, Martha Brooks Alexander Trisler; sister, Carol Trisler Barker of Ft. Worth, TX; two sons, Richard Thomas Trisler of Myrtle Beach, SC and Daniel Max Trisler and wife Liz of Portland, OR; three daughters, Meaghan “Kate” Trisler Jensen and husband, Sean of Woodbury, MN, Rosemary Trisler Wegmann and husband, Brian of Beaufort, SC and Christine Trisler Thompson of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, great grandchildren and nephews. Richard also leaves behind many good friends in the Rambin community. Richard loved God, his wife, his farm and horses, the Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame football team, in that order. Richard and Martha enjoyed sailing around the British Virgin Islands in the summer for several years before moving to DeSoto Parish, where they established a small horse farm they named Dreamcatcher. They enjoyed many hours of trail riding with friends and traveling in their RV with their great friends Billy and Libby Barbee. Richard enjoyed working on the farm and learning how to do all the things a landowner must do to keep the property in good shape. He enjoyed volunteering at GREAT, a therapeutic horse riding facility in Greenwood, LA. Richard was a lector, chairman of the Finance Committee, and an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist at St. George Catholic Church in Coushatta, LA. His faith, and particularly his church family at St. George, was very important to him. Rosary and visitation was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rambin, LA, at 6 p.m. Friday, November 25. A mass of celebration of Richard’s life was at St. Mary’s church on Saturday, November 26 at 11 a.m. where Father Joseph Ampatt, pastor of St. George Catholic Church of Coushatta, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Mary’s House of LA, Inc., 906 Margaret Place, Shreveport, LA 71101.

Donald Eugene Smith

Donald Eugene Smith, born January 30, 1950 in Colfax, LA passed away at his home in Grand Cane, LA on November 11, 2016. He is preceded in death by his father, A.U. Smith and his mother, Jackie Fisher Smith of Colfax. Don was a Veteran of the Vietnam War in which he proudly served his country with honor. He is survived by five children; sons, Donald Eugene Smith, Jr. and wife Deeane, Jessie Smith, Jacob Smith and two daughters, Gina Smith Pomes and husband Paul and Amanda Smith Calk. Brother Bill Smith and sister Geneva Adair and family. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A Memorial service was held at First Community Church in Mansfield, LA by Pastor Toby Shaw. Don became a member of the church in April, 2010. He will be missed by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Brother Adam Anderson was born on April 20, 1934 in Grand Cane, Louisiana. He departed from his earthly house to be with the Lord on December 6, 2016 in Mansfield, Louisiana. He was the son of Tom and Ada Anderson. Adam’s homegoing was preceded by his wife, Mary Pegues Anderson. Services honoring the life of Mr. Anderson were December 10th at Friendship Baptist Church in Grand Cane, Louisiana with Rev. Odell Pennywell Presiding and Rev. Wilbur Dawson officiating. Adam was a well-loved barber in addition to serving as a dedicated school bus driver for DeSoto Parish School Board for many years. He was also a lifelong faithful member at Friendship Baptist Church and served as a loyal deacon for most of his adulthood. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Clineece Kelly, son, Darrell Anderson (Andrea) and four children (Darrell II [Jessica], Derrick, Ashwin, and Anassas), daughter Janet Ra’Shadd and son James, and daughter Sherrhonda Gayle (Patrick), brother Leon Anderson (Lessie), two great grandchildren (Lauren and Harper) and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Sandra was born on September 9, 1938 in Bay City, Texas to James Sanders Goldsby and Clovis Robbins Goldsby and passed away on December 8, 2016 in Richton, Mississippi. Preceding Sandra in death are her husband, Carl Bryan Binning; parents James Sanders Goldsby and Clovis Robbins Goldsby; brother, James Goldsby, and great grand daughter, Sarah Grace Walley. Tyler David Bell

Tyler David Bell born September 5, 1930 to the late John T. Bell and Gladys Allen Bell in Grand Cane, La., and departed this life on November 25,2016 at his home in Charleston, SC surrounded by his Loving family. Tyler received his formal education through the Joaquin Texas School system. After high school he entered into the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years of military service. Then after his military career he worked for Military Sealift Command serving as chief electrician for an additional 15 years. Papa was the Life of the Party!! Tyler Bell AKA THE MILKY WAY KID boxed in the Navy for many years until he was defeated by a Filipino opponent, so he decided to bow out gracefully, because he did not want to mess up his face. (PRETIY BOY TYLER). Tyler was known as Daddy, Papa, & we would always make the joke that "Papa was a Rolling Stone". He loved his family dearly, and he would refer to his son's as the Bellaroni's, his daughter's as his ANGELS, and his grands as his babies. Papa always had a sense of humor and kept a smile on his face. The loving and positive energy that he has spread throughout the family over his eighty-six years will never be forgotten and his wisdom will live on. He was preceded in death by his loving father John T. Bell; Mother Gladys Allen Bell; beloved Brother James Monroe Bell and Sister Rachel McDaniel and his son William Allison Price. Shane grew up in Pasadena, TX and served as a member of The United States Marine Corps. He is survived by his son, Robert James Pharris of Houston, TX; his brothers, Ronnie Pharris and wife Cindy of Clarendon, TX; Rick Pharris and wife Janet of Mansfield, LA; Randy Pharris of La Porte, TX; Roger Pharris and his wife Elizabeth of Pasadena, TX; and sister Debra Booth and husband John of De Kalb, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation was held at 9 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Aulds Funeral Home in Shreveport. A service of remembrance was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Keithville, LA. Aaron Zane Kirkman (Skooter), 31, of Mansfield, passed away on Saturday December 24, 2016. Born September 25, 1985 to Jonathan Kirkman and Beck Morris. He attended Mansfield High School and got his GED. He worked at Teeco Safety in Shreveport. He loved his boss, Randy Nash, and all his coworkers. He was a loving father, son, friend and fiancée. He cherished life, every moment, he always had a smile on his face. Everyone that knew him, loved him. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his parents, Becky and Randy Morris; his father, Jonathan Kirkman. His son Seth Wayne Owens and his mother Alex Owens. His fiancé Crystal Daniels and her children Jade, Jasmine and Adrian. His mother and father-in-law Ricky and Nancy Watson and Bruce Daniels; grandmother Mary Drake; Sisters: Brenda and Wade Springer, Amanda and William Posuk, Shirley Morris, Nikki Kirkman, and Libby Kirkman; Brother Randy Morris; Aunts and Uncles: Trish and Richard Miller, Cindy Reeder, Sherri and Alan Harris, Nathan Drake, and Sherri Kirkman; Nephews: Tony and T.J. Helen Elizabeth Harris Calhoun

Helen Elizabeth Harris Calhoun died peacefully in her sleep on December 23, 2016. She was born May 20, 1931 in Shreveport, LA, to Jack Edwin Harris and Elizabeth Conly Harris. Helen attended Byrd High School and Louisiana Tech, and married James M. Calhoun on Sept. 2, 1951. She and James moved to Mansfield, LA, in 1952. They were members of First Baptist Church from then until their deaths. Helen taught children’s’ Sunday School and directed children’s’ choirs for many years. She served as church organist for over 40 years. She taught piano lessons, had a ceramic shop at her home, enjoyed Mansfield Garden Club, DeSoto Arts Council, and American Hemerocallis Society. Helen hybridized, named and registered a number of daylily cultivars. James and Helen were in the dairy business, raised beef cattle, and owned Wag-a-Bag convenience stores for 28 years. Funeral arrangements honoring the life of Helen Elizabeth Harris Calhoun were 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana with interment following at Highland Cemetery. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Chapel on Monday December 26, 2016. Helen and James raised three children. She was predeceased by her husband, James, and her son, James M. Calhoun, Jr. “Jim”. Helen is survived by Jim’s widow, Beth Calhoun, from Fort Worth, and their girls Meredith Robles (Victor), Jacqueline Nix, and Elyse Sullivan (Noah). Their second child, David Prentiss Calhoun, and his wife Janet, live in Mansfield and have three children, Jennie Weeks (Matt), Heather Berry (Paul) and Vanessa Wilson (Bracy). Their third child, Elizabeth Grant, and her husband Greg Grant, live in Bellingham, WA. Helen had six granddaughters and ten great-grandchildren. Special thanks go to her friends Bobbie and Evelyn, and her caretakers Frances, Eliza and Robin. Helen was a beauty, inside and outside. She was talented artistically and musically. She was energetic, smart and fun to be around. Our hearts are broken, but we are comforted to know that she is now in heaven with Jesus and loved ones who went before

Funeral services honoring the life of Bell “Pete” Lafitte, 81, was at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 5, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pelican, LA with Father Mathew Long officiating. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM. Pete was born on February 2, 1935, in Rambin Community to Burl and Frances Lafitte and passed away on December 31, 2016 in Pelican, LA. Pete was a loving father and grandfather. He was a 50-year retiree of the Pipe Liners Local 798 and also served in United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Preceding Bell in death were his parents Burl and Frances Lafitte; spouse Billie Elliott Lafitte, Daughter; Laurie Gem Lafitte, sister; Ina Marie Lafitte. Those left behind to cherish her memory are his Wife Frances Elliott Lafitte, Sons; Tim Lafitte and wife Shawnee, Edwin Lafitte, Stepsons: Farrell Rose and wife Amanda, Kevin Liker and wife Kristin, Daughter; Lisa Hymel and husband Wynn, Melanie Roark and husband Kevin, Stepdaughter; Rosalyn Rose Kelly and husband Pete, Brothers; Bearl Lafitte and wife Marie, Louis Lafitte and wife Dorothy, Gerald Lafitte, Francis Lafitte and wife Mitzi, James Lafitte and Janice, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A celebration of the life of Mr. Walter Ross Thompson was held on Thursday December 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath Mansfield Chapel. The Family had a visitation for family and friends on Wednesday December 28, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. The burial took place at Fellowship Baptist Church, Converse, La. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Ross Thompson Sr. and Lois Hicks Craig; step-father, SL Craig; sister, Angie; son-in-law Jim Tullis; brother-in-law Bryant Yopp. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his spouse Murlene Thompson; daughters, Sherian DuPont, Fara Calhoun, Sharon Tullis, Mary Morris and husband, Bill, Susie Greenfield and husband Doug, Beverly Parkerson, Linda Rachall and husband David; sister, Annice Yopp and sons, Danny Singletary, Mark Singletary, and Troy Yopp III; son Billy Shu and wife Karen; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Honoring Mr. Walter Thompson as pallbearers were Micheal Hearne, Logan Parkerson, Doug Greenfield, Brian Tullis, Bill Morris, and David Rachall. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Troy B. Yopp III, Danny Singletary, and Mark Singletary. Walter Ross Thompson (86) was born June 4, 1930 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 24, 2016. He retired as a mechanical engineer for J. Ray McDermott Pipeline. He loved Bluegrass music almost as much as he loved gardening, he was especially known for his five gallon drums of tomatoes and his expression “If I can’t eat it, I won’t grow it”. He loved his church family of New Life Assembly of God. But his family always had a special place in his heart, including that of his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchild of whom he had a nickname for all. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Guest House and Willis Knighton North who made Walter and the family feel well cared for, the staff and residents of Summerfield Estates, and Walter’s church family who kept Walter and the family in their prayers.

Funeral services for Texas Marie Spainhour Perry Broadway, 80, of Grand Cane, LA were held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in Rockett Funeral Home Chapel, Ringgold, LA. Officiating was Rev. Chuck McInturf and burial followed in Providence Cemetery, Ringgold, LA. Visitation was Monday, January 16, 2017 from 5:00–8:00 P.M. at Rockett Funeral Home, Ringgold, LA. Texas was born June 26, 1936 in Ft. Worth, TX and passed away January 13, 2017 in Shreveport, LA. She graduated from Ringgold High School in 1954 and attended LA Tech University. She grew up in Ringgold, LA where she helped manage the family owned and operated grocery store and wholesale businesses, Cloverleaf Grocery and Wholesale Company. Texas was very active in the Ringgold community for many years. She was a founding member of the Ringgold Women’s Club and owned a dress shop, Texas’ Hangups at one time. Texas often attended Women of Faith and was a Red Hat Society member. She enjoyed attending gospel music festivals, attending plays, and traveling as well as fishing, camping, getting together with old friends and relatives and of course, her time spent with her grandson and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.I. and Marie White Spainhour; husbands, John Garland Perry, Sr. and Roy Broadway; sons, John Garland Perry, Jr. and Francis “Flip” Perry; and brother, Aaron Spainhour. Left to cherish her memory include her grandson, Michael Perry and fiancé Windy Thrasher of Paducah, KY; great grandchildren, Alexis and Tristan of Paducah, KY; sister-in-law, Bettye Spainhour of Ringgold, LA; nieces, Kathy Edwards of Ringgold, LA and Debi Horde of Friendswood, TX; nephew, George Spainhour and wife, Paula of Austin, TX; stepdaughter, Debbie Broadway of Delhi, LA; stepsons, Travis Broadway of Grand Cane, LA and Marvin Broadway of Robeline, LA; Michael’s mother, Trina Perry Lewis of Jamestown, LA and a number of other relatives and friends

The family received friends at Rose- Neath Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM. Carl was born on May 18, 1945, in Denham Springs, LA to Clarence and Alice Sullivan and passed away on January 9, 2017 in Mansfield, LA. Carl was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was honorably discharged after serving four years in the United States Air Force. Retiring after 27 years with Cleco, Carl was the owner and operator at Sully Tree Service in Mansfield, LA. Preceding Carl in death were his parents; Clarence and Alice Sullivan; his brothers; Cecil Sullivan and Ricky Sullivan. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Debra K. Caston Sullivan, his sons; Shawn Sullivan & wife Iris, and Shannon Sullivan, grandchildren; Harley, Colt, Dusty, Amy Jo and Gina, great grandchildren; Braelyn and Kanon, brother; Lloyd Sullivan & Frances Kay, and sister; Deborah Sullivan.

Funeral services honoring the life of Madlyn Harris Muench, 94, were at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA where Reverend Delmon Rogers and Reverend Lee Dixon officiated. Burial followed at Benson Cemetery in Benson, LA. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 12:00 PM till 2:00 PM. Madlyn was born on September 5, 1922 in Benson, LA to Wilburn P. and Madge B. Harris and passed away on January 9, 2017 in Benson, LA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Madlyn was an active member of DeSoto Parish. She was a founding member of DeSoto Fire District 8, Waterworks District #1, and DeSoto Communications District (E911). She also served on numerous committees, which included Core Committee for DeSoto Parish Sesquicentennial History Book, Civil War reenactment of Battle of Pleasant Hill Committee, Activities Committee American Legion Post 139. She submitted numerous articles to the DeSoto Parish History Book Vol. 1 & 2 relating to towns, early medical history of the doctors and families of DeSoto Parish. Madlyn was a member of Mansfield Garden Club, DeSoto Historical Society, Benson Baptist Church; where she made the floral arrangements for church services. She was an avid cook, a gardner, floral arranger and historian. She had a winning smile that would turn a stranger into a friend. Preceding Madlyn in death were her husband, Donald R. Muench; parents, Wilburn and Madge Harris; son, Michael B. Muench; brother, Elbert F. Harris and sister, Dr. Nena Ashcraft. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son Randall P. Muench of Benson, LA; daughters, Louellyn Hale of Richmond, VA, Nancy M. Jeffers and husband Roy of High Point, NC; sister, Stella L.Wilkes of College Station, TX; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Those honoring the life of Madlyn as pallbearers will be DeSoto Parish District 8 Firefighters.
