Juanell Hughes, loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother entered into her eternal rest on January 22, 2017. Juanell was born on May 19, 1932 to Calvin and Barbara Galloway in Afton, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Gwyndel Galloway, Fern Golden Keeling, Dottie McDaniels, Grace Walden, Kate Parks, and Willie Parker; and brothers RC, Elvin, Olan, Bud, and Jim Galloway. She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Joe Hughes of Logansport, LA, daughters Carolyn Sewell and Juana Countryman of Port Arthur, TX, grandsons Cody (Angela) and David Sewell, Caleb and Seth Countryman, Ricky, Jr. (Jordyn), and Randy Collida (Heather), and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters: Doris Hill of Fort Worth, TX, Carol Huff of Stonewall, LA, and Pat Arbuckle of Logansport, LA. Juanell was a gifted cook, seamstress, and gardener. She was also a mentor to numerous young people who were lucky enough to call her their “second mother.” Juanell served as a group leader for Campfire Girls teaching young ladies to quilt, cook, camp, and even pull taffy. She was a faithful member of Joaquin church of Christ and loved her church family. Her homemade yeast rolls will be missed at their potlucks. Angela Gail Myers, 48 years old, from Logansport, Louisiana passed away January 29, 2017 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born in Crossett, Arkansas on October 1, 1968. She is survived by her loving daughters; Kattie and Carissa Wadkins, her husband, Kevin Myers, mother and father; Joan and Donnie Johnson, sisters, Theresa Orr and Melanie Martin, and brother, Mark Johnson. “We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. We thought of you yesterday and days before that, too. We think of you in silence as we often speak your name. All we have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our heart.
Ernest Norman Blalock, 70, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017. He was born July 17, 1946 and was the only son of James Norman and Ruth Stephens Blalock. Mr. Blalock is survived by his two sisters, Jane Elizabeth (Blalock) Dunham and Norma Rebecca (Blalock) Murphy and four nephews, Eric Tullos, Hugh, Jay and Kelly Graham. Deacon Harris James Green (Harry) was born on July 15, 1951 to the late Ms. Lurlean Green. He was second of five boys. Harris accepted Christ and was baptized at Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church at the age of eight years old under the pastorage of the great Rev. G.D. Jackson. Harris served as a faithful member for 52 years where he served as a member of the Trustee Board and Chairman of the Deacon Board over 15 years. Harris loved his church and served in many capacities including grounds keeper. Harris organized the Gospel Clouds and they sung for fifteen years. Harris attended DeSoto Parish School and was a champion baseball player. Harris was married for 41 years to Mary Linda Jones and kept their marriage vows sacred for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, until death did them part. He was a great and wonderful husband and father. Harris was a truck driver for the DeSoto Parish Police Jury for twentynine years and a school bus driver for DeSoto Parish School Board for eighteen years. He was a very hard worker who took great pride in what he did. In June 2010 he reluctantly left the Moore’s Chapel B.B. where he then attended the Community of Faith Ministries under Pastor George Thomas. After careful consideration, he founded and organized the New Foundation B.C. in an effort to keep his family together. Pastor Reynard Scroggins helped to keep the flock together until he decided to leave to organize his own church. Deacon Green served faithful until his health failed to the battle of cancer. He was proceeded in death by his mother Ms. Lurlean Green, step father Roosevelt Edwards, two brothers Willie Green and Edward Green. Harris departed this earthly life and transition to his heavenly home on February 4, 2017 at 2:00 AM. MANSFIELD, LA – Marjorie passed away February 25, 2017, at Azalea Estates Assisted Living, her home for the past two years. She enjoyed all of her friends there and represented them as Ms. Merry Christmas 2015. Marjorie was born September 30, 1922, in the Lula Community to Buna Bissell Hatcher and William Marshall. Preceding Marjorie in death are her parents, her husband Floyd Hayes, brothers, Henry and Eugene, sisters, Leona and Gladys. She is survived by nieces; nephews; sister-in-law, Clara Hatcher that she loved dearly; and a very special niece she loved as her daughter, Sue Baker. This is a great loss for Sue and her family. Graveside Services were held at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield, LA at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017, were Bro. Skip Noble presided. The family wishes to thank Bro. Skip for his visits and prayers, Azalea Estates for their care and attention, her “girls” Mia, Latrice and Gwen, and St. Joseph Hospice.

Carol was born in Kittanning, PA on January 15, 1945, the 6th of nine children. After graduating from Kittanning High School in 1962, she moved to Washington, DC where she worked as a secretary for the federal government. In August of 1965 Carol met the love of her life, Robert, who was enlisted in the Army and stationed at nearby Fort Myer, VA. Carol and Robert were married December 19, 1967 and relocated to Logansport, La. Carol thoroughly enjoyed cooking, spending time with her friends and family, and raising their three sons. She was the owner of Kare Bear Day Care and it was there where she spent countless number of hours caring for children. After a sudden illness, Carol went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2017, surrounded by her beloved family. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 49 years Robert Gurley Sr., sons Robbie Gurley, Scott Gurley, and wife Lori, Adam Gurley and wife Wendy, and 8 grandchildren A memorial service was held to honor her life on February 25, 2017 in Logansport, La.
