Robert Marshall Myers

Dec. 29, 1963-July 21, 2018

Robert Marshall Myers, age 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at his home in Pelican, Louisiana after an 18 month battle with cancer. Robert was born on December 29, 1963, at DeSoto General Hospital in Mansfield, Louisiana. He graduated from Pelican High School in 1981, and from Northwestern State University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agri-Business and an associate degree in Forestry. He later became a Certified Public Accountant and continued participating in online accounting seminars even while undergoing treatment for cancer. Robert was devoted to his family, his church, and the community of Pelican. His superb organizational skills and his attention to detail were exhibited in everything he did, whether in his personal business or his volunteer work in the church and community. After graduation from NSU he worked for the Sabine Parish Cooperative Extension Service. For many years Robert was the manager for Rocking G Farms and for various real estate holdings owned by the late Mary Rives Gallaspy. Since 2010 he has managed his own property, both pasture and timberland, and enjoyed raising pure bred Gelbvieh cattle. Robert was a lifelong member and a deacon of the Pelican Baptist Church where his grandfather was the pastor for many years. Robert served as a board member and the treasurer for the Pelican Cemetery Association. He was a shareholder in the San Patricio Cattle Co., LLC, and was the accountant for this family business. Robert was preceded in death by grandparents Rev. J. N. and Mirial Roberts Myers and Norman and Mary Leigh Marshall Gallaspy. He is survived by his wife Tammy Fisher Myers; daughters Emily Ann Myers and Mary Ellen Myers; parents James Glen and Kathleen Gallaspy Myers; sister Leigh Ann Myers; brother David Glen Myers and wife Paige; niece Sydney Myers and nephew Jacob Myers. He is also survived by aunts, Ann Myers Schimmel (George) and Virginia Gallaspy Garlington (Bruce) and uncle, John Norman Gallaspy. Other survivors are cousins Mitchell (Dana) and Marshall (Julie) Garlington; Whit (Stacy), Gard (Lori), and Lee (Tonya) Gallaspy; Andrew Schimmel, Julia Schimmel Gonzales, and Elizabeth Schimmel Cherry, and other extended family members. The visitation for Robert was Monday, July 23, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, Louisiana. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Mack Black of the Pelican Baptist Church, was on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in the Pelican Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Walt Salter, Ray Fisher, Glen Caldwell and Henry McPhearson. Active pallbearers were Joe Caldwell, Dennis Choate, Alex Hesser, David Hesser, Wesley Fisher, and Henry Touchton. The family is grateful to Dr. Ben Leggio, Dr. Christopher Snead, Dr. Lane Rosen, Dr. C. Jake Wang, the staff of Louisiana Home Health and all the other medical professionals who cared for Robert over the last months. Special thanks extended to Nell Norwood and the staff of Superior Hospice for their care in the last days. The family requests that any memorial donations be given to the Pelican Cemetery Association, PO Box 121, Pelican, LA 71063 or to The Gideons International ministry.
