Senior Master Sergeant Frank J Elliott age 87 went to Heaven from his home in Longstreet, LA on May 14th 2018 with his Helen Elliott and his two sons, Warren and Ben by his side. His death was a result of complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Frank was born in Stanley Wisconsin to Clifford Robert and Kathryn (Hurley) Elliott on September 18th 1930. His family moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin where he went to school. In elementary school Frank was active in scouting. In high school he played basketball, football, played the trumpet in school band, he also competed in the figure skating. After graduating from Chippewa Falls High School, he went to River Falls College to play basketball, but ended up on the football team. His college career was interrupted in 1951 by the Korean War, which changed the lives of many young men, who were eligible for the draft, Frank included. He made the decision to join the United States Air Force to serve his country. That was a good decision. He took the oath to serve his country in July of 1951, and did so with pride and honor for the next 28 years. His first assignment was basic training in Texas, his last duty assignment was NCOIC of Materiel Control, 2nd bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. He retired from military service in July 1979. Leisure Life lasted only a short period of time. He went to work for Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana as their Medical Warehouse Supervisor. After 15 years he retired again. He then became involved with Youth Sports in Bossier City, Louisiana. One of his greatest joys was coaching his two sons in Little League Sports. In 1995 Frank and Helen decided to move to the country. We moved to the rural Village of Longstreet, Louisiana in DeSoto Parish, which was close to Toledo Bend Lake, the Sabine River and fishing! In Longstreet Frank became an Alderman on the Village Council and after a few years became the Mayor of Longstreet. During this time he was a board member of the Logansport Chamber of Commerce and also served on the Board of Commissioners for Fire District #1 in Logansport, LA. Frank enjoyed meeting people and becoming involved in the community where he resided. Each summer we journeyed to the Elliott family cabin on Loon Lake in northern Wisconsin where Frank spent his boyhood summers with his family doing what he loved, which was swimming and fishing!!! Frank is survived by his wife Helen Rivers Elliott, married for 62 years 5 months and 2 days at the time of his leaving the earth; by his three sons Mark Dennis Elliott Saline (Rosalyn), of Culloeska, Tennessee, Warren Joseph Elliott (Lisa) of Benton, LA, Benjamin Clifford Elliott of Longstreet, LA, Sister, Lavonne Misfeldt of Solon, Iowa, and three grandsons and 3 great grand children. Elliott of Eau Claire, WI, Dale Elliott of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Jim Elliot of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and sister Florena Nelson of Charlotte, North Carolina. Frank’s last act of giving was to donate his body to Medical Science, so that he may contribute to the ongoing research and causes and possible cure for the devastating disease of Alzheimer’s. He gave his all for mankind. God has made my Frank whole again! He is walking, talking, seeing, hearing, and SMILING!! Until I get there my darling husband - Loving you forever! Helen

Feb. 21, 1935-July 25, 2018

PELICAN, LA--Waymon Terrel Haire, 83, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at University Health in Shreveport. He was the husband of Bobbie Nell Hinkie Haire. They were married 61 years ago on February 23, 1957. He was born February 21, 1935 in Wallace community and was the son of Truman and Hattie Haire. Waymon joined the United States Air Force on June 21, 1953 and served his country faithfully 20 years. He then went to work for the Air Force in a Civil Service capacity for 24 years. He loved his country but more than that he loved the Lord. His faith displayed a true servant’s heart. If someone needed something fixed, or a ride somewhere, or anything done, he was there. If the church, or the nearby Christian camp needed some kind of help, you can bet Waymon was there putting in new light fixtures, repairing the air conditioner, cutting the lawn, or any of the hundreds of little things he did on a regular basis. He was one who wanted to be in the background and never desired praise for his work. He passed from this life to the next “being a doer of the word”. He was preceded in death by his parents Truman and Hattie Haire, his brother Valery Haire, and his sister Mary Ann Hinds. In addition to his wife, Bobbie Nell, Waymon is survived by his two sons, Barry D. Haire and wife Penny of Bossier City, and Mark A. Haire and his wife Cindy of Wallace Community; three grandsons, Lance E. Haire and wife Savannah, Ethan P. Haire and wife Madi, and Aaron K. Haire; three great grandchildren, Adam Haire, Harper Haire and Zelda Haire; one brother Jack Haire and wife Aubyn, of Texarkana, TX, and one sister, Annette Perrin of Wallace Community; and a host of extended family and friends. Visitation was held Rose Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, Louisiana Sunday, July 29, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. His life celebration service was held at Wallace Baptist Church, 5605, Hwy 177, Pelican LA Monday, July 30, at 10:00a.m. Graveside services followed at Wallace Cemetery. The Barksdale Air Force Base Honor guard provided military honors at graveside. March 28, 1941-July 25, 2018

Funeral services honoring the life of LaJuana Shaver were held Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Mansfield, Louisiana with Father Richard Norsworthy and Father James Moran officiating. Burial followed at Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Carmel, Louisiana. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service with the Rosary at 9:00 a.m. Our wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and joyful friend, LaJuana Ruth Lee Shaver, died peacefully in the early morning of July 25. She was 77 years old. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Dill Lee; her father, Frank M. Lee; and brother, Frank Jerry Lee. She is survived by her husband Vance Shaver, her son Lee Morgan Shaver and wife Kim; granddaughter, Allison Shaver; sister-in-law, Fannie Shaver; nephews, Shane Lee, Shawn Lee, and Steve Shaver; niece, Robin Ricks and two great nephews. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mansfield. LaJuana was born in Mansfield, Louisiana on March 28, 1941 and grew up in the community of Carmel, Louisiana where her ancestors had been longtime residents and participants in that early and active Louisiana settlement. One of the treasures of that community was The Little Rock Chapel. LaJuana spent much of her time with other Carmel children playing in the woods around the chapel. She and her husband Vance eventually became the caretakers of this beloved chapel. LaJuana attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carmel until it combined its congregation with that of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mansfield. At both churches, LaJuana was fervent in her practice and beliefs and was, from a very young age, active in dedicating herself to corporeal acts through caring and cleaning the altar cloths of the church, cooking and serving at the famous Catholic Church Spaghetti and Gumbo dinners, and wonderfully decorating the church for Easter and Christmas. Her work did not go unnoticed; she received the Bishop’s Medal of Honor in recognition of her work in the church parish. After LaJuana graduated from Beauty School, she began her own beauty shop at home in Carmel. She brought her sense of good friendships and that laughter to her shop. Men may have gathered around old wood stoves musing over random thoughts, but at LaJuana's beauty shop, women danced in their souls. LaJuana made sure her life was filled with laughter and friends. And her friends complied. They all also look back at the days of relaxing with her and Vance at their camp on Clear Lake. She was caretaker for family and friends, cooking and delivering meals, making sure hospital and doctor appointments were made and gotten to. She loved her pond and all the animals, fish, and flowers that made their home around it. And most of all, she loved her family. She loved the “pickin' and grinnin'” group that her husband Vance put together. She loved partnering with him in keeping up the Rock Chapel, helping him in his Deaconess duties at the Emanuel Baptist Church, and most of all in bringing up their son, Lee Morgan, who eventually became Mansfield's Fire Chief, much to her pride and joy. Honoring LaJuana as pallbearers were Otis Calhoun, Lonnie DeSoto, Tommy Mason, Justin Taylor, Don English, and Trey Lewis. All LaJuana’s family and friends wish her eternal happiness and peace. The family would like to express great appreciation to the staff at DeSoto Rehab and Superior Hospice for their care during LaJauna’s illness. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Rock Chapel Fund or the Carmel Cemetery Fund.
