Funeral services for Jimmy W. Bull, 66, of Gorum, Louisiana were at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Logansport, Louisiana with Reverend J.A. Meeks officiating. The burial followed in the Adams Cemetery in Logan, Texas. The family received friends for visitation on Monday, August 20, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport. Jimmy, the son of Nolan and Joyce Bull, was born October 18, 1951 in Alice, Texas. He passed away on August 18, 2018 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jimmy was a machinist by trade, but his favorite job was that of volunteer fireman for the Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department in Panola County, Texas. He loved to read and watch westerns, spend time with family, as well as taking his grandchildren on vacation out west in the national parks. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Marjorie Bull, his sons, James Emerson Bull and wife Cassie, Joseph McClendon Bull and wife Kristin, and John Lorenzo Bull and wife Nikki. Also, his grandchildren, Johnathon Randall Bull, Caylee Elizabeth Bull, Jolea Michaela Bull, Alice Jane Bull, Adalyn Jade Bull, Alayna Renee Bull, Emmett Lane Bull, and Hanna Marie Bull. He has two wonderful young friends, Ezra Cortez and Marshall Lewis of Gorum LA. Pall-bearers include James Bull, Joseph Bull, John Bull, Ezra Cortez, Marshall Lewis, and Daniel Philyaw, with Johnathon Bull as an honorary pall-bearer.

Mildred Jo Ashton Magness Oct. 28, 1923-August 2018

Funeral services honoring the life of Mildred Jo Ashton Magness, 94, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Rose- Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Logansport, LA. Rev. Charles Hall and Rev. Shawn Thrapp officiated, the burial followed at the O. E. Price Cemetery in Logansport. Friends visited from 6 pm until 8 pm, Thursday, August 16th at the Rose-Neath Chapel in Logansport. Mildred Jo Ashton Magness was born in Logansport, Louisiana on October 28, 1923. The youngest of four children, Mildred was raised in Desoto parish and is a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Logansport. After graduation from high school, she worked as a book keeper for the Haslam, TX, Lumber Company. Mildred worked at several businesses as office manager and chief book keeper with her final employment at the Shelby- Panola Savings and Loan in Carthage, TX. She retired in 1988. Mildred married Murry F. Magness in 1946. They enjoyed traveling and especially staying at their lake house on Toledo Bend Lake where they spent many hours fishing for bream and crappie. They were married for 45 years before he passed away in April of 1991. Mildred moved to Shreveport and lived there until 2013 when she moved to the Azalea estates in Gonzales to be near her son and daughter-in-law Murry and Eve Magness, Jr. Mildred enjoys watching football and her two favorite teams are the LSU Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys. Mildred is survived by her son Murry F. Magness Jr. and his wife Eve. She is also survived by a large group of nieces and nephews from both the Ashton and Magness sides of the families. Honoring the life of Mildred as pallbearers were Scott Elliott, Caleb Elliott, Richard Land, Andrew Elliott, Timothy Elliott, and Don Alexander.

Frankie Mathis, pastor of the Cornerstone Cowboy Church in Logansport, officiated. The burial followed in the Bethel Cemetery in Logansport. The family received friends for visitation, Friday, August 17, 2018 from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport. Larry was the son of the Floyd Smith and Dorothea Wheeland Smith, he was born September 21, 1948 in San Augustine, TX and passed away August 16, 2018 in Shreveport, LA. He was preceded in death by his father, and his brother, Kenneth Floyd Smith. Larry worked in the poultry industry in all aspects. He was a friend to many and was always willing to help someone out. He loved his family, LSU football, hunting, and fishing. He will be truly missed by many. Those left to cherish his memory; his wife of 48 years, Sarah Smith; sons, Mark and wife Heather Smith and Dustin Smith; daughter, Kimberly Wooten-Hill and husband Lyn; mother, Dot Smith; grandchildren, Todd Allen Smith and wife Courtney, Joshua Wayne Smith, Bailey Katherine Wooten, Banks Westin Wooten and Blakelyn True Tucker Weatherly and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Mansfield Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. James was born September 26, 1947, in Mansfield, LA to Clyde and Alice Magness Austin and passed away on August 20, 2018 at his residence. He was an awesome husband, father, and grandfather. James loved to fish and hunt. Preceding James in death were his parents; Infant son; and sisters, Linda Bush and Marie Trotti. Those left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Patty Austin; daughters, Rackshon Campbell, Jammie Lovett and husband Chris; brother, Earnest Austin; six grandchildren, Brittany Lovett, Carley Austin, Layton Lovett, Allison Campbell, Shelby Lovett, Breanna Lovett and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Honoring James as pallbearers will be Danny McMellon Jr., Vagie Lynn “Bubba” Lovett, John David Toney, Kelly Lovett, Ernie Austin, Jr., and Trey Martone. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Trenton Bossier, Christopher Lovett, Layton Lovett, and Carter Grissom. The family would like to give a special Thank You to Mansfield Dialysis Center for their care and support.

Robert Marshall Myers

Robert Marshall Myers, age 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at his home in Pelican, Louisiana after an 18 month battle with cancer. Robert was born on December 29, 1963, at DeSoto General Hospital in Mansfield, Louisiana. He graduated from Pelican High School in 1981, and from Northwestern State University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agri-Business and an associate degree in Forestry. He later became a Certified Public Accountant and continued participating in online accounting seminars even while undergoing treatment for cancer. Robert was devoted to his family, his church, and the community of Pelican. His superb organizational skills and his attention to detail were exhibited in everything he did, whether in his personal business or his volunteer work in the church and community. After graduation from NSU he worked for the Sabine Parish Cooperative Extension Service. For many years Robert was the manager for Rocking G Farms and for various real estate holdings owned by the late Mary Rives Gallaspy. Since 2010 he has managed his own property, both pasture and timberland, and enjoyed raising pure bred Gelbvieh cattle. Robert was a lifelong member and a deacon of the Pelican Baptist Church where his grandfather was the pastor for many years. Robert served as a board member and the treasurer for the Pelican Cemetery Association. He was a shareholder in the San Patricio Cattle Co., LLC, and was the accountant for this family business. Robert was preceded in death by grandparents Rev. J. N. and Mirial Roberts Myers and Norman and Mary Leigh Marshall Gallaspy. He is survived by his wife Tammy Fisher Myers; daughters Emily Ann Myers and Mary Ellen Myers; parents James Glen and Kathleen Gallaspy Myers; sister Leigh Ann Myers; brother David Glen Myers and wife Paige; niece Sydney Myers and nephew Jacob Myers. He is also survived by aunts, Ann Myers Schimmel (George) and Virginia Gallaspy Garlington (Bruce) and uncle, John Norman Gallaspy. Other survivors are cousins Mitchell (Dana) and Marshall (Julie) Garlington; Whit (Stacy), Gard (Lori), and Lee (Tonya) Gallaspy; Andrew Schimmel, Julia Schimmel Gonzales, and Elizabeth Schimmel Cherry, and other extended family members. The visitation for Robert was Monday, July 23, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, Louisiana. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Mack Black of the Pelican Baptist Church, was on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in the Pelican Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Walt Salter, Ray Fisher, Glen Caldwell and Henry McPhearson. Active pallbearers were Joe Caldwell, Dennis Choate, Alex Hesser, David Hesser, Wesley Fisher, and Henry Touchton. The family is grateful to Dr. Ben Leggio, Dr. Christopher Snead, Dr. Lane Rosen, Dr. C. Jake Wang, the staff of Louisiana Home Health and all the other medical professionals who cared for Robert over the last months. Special thanks extended to Nell Norwood and the staff of Superior Hospice for their care in the last days. The family requests that any memorial donations be given to the Pelican Cemetery Association, PO Box 121, Pelican, LA 71063 or to The Gideons International ministry.

John “Johnny” Clinton McFerren, Jr.

Funeral services for the Honorable John “Johnny” Clinton McFerren, 84, were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Brookwood Baptist Church with Rev. John Harp and Rev. David Rice officiated. Interment followed at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Johnny, born October 29, 1933 in Marthaville, LA to John Clinton and Mae Donaho McFerren, went home to be with his Lord on August 1, 2018. He was a Shreveport businessman and a Democratic former State Representative for Caddo and DeSoto Parishes in Northwestern Louisiana. Mr. McFerren received a Master of Science Degree in Education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Originally a classroom teacher, he then served for twelve years on the elected Caddo Parish School Board and served as President. From 1980 to 1996, he represented State House District 7 for four terms and was the Chairman of the House Education Committee from 1992 to 1996. Johnny was the owner of McFerren Real Estate for 60 years. He was the founder and owner of Johnny's Catfish and Seafood at 5130 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in Shreveport. He was the President of the Belle Maison Neighborhood Association in Shreveport. He was also a founding member and deacon for over 50 years at Brookwood Baptist Church. In 2017, Governor John Bel Edwards appointed Mr. McFerren to the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System. Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patsy Moss McFerren, and brothers Wayne and Norman McFerren. Left behind to cherish many memories are his daughter, Karen Beth McFerren; son, Scott McFerren and wife Lori; grandsons, Justin Penn and wife Heather, Clint McFerren and wife Lauren, Beau McFerren and wife Gabby; greatgrandchildren, Cora, Michael Reid, and John-Hardin Penn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Honoring Johnny as pallbearers were Jackie Birdwell, Jeremy Evans, Tim Leger, Beau McFerren, Clint McFerren, Jeff McFerren, Michael McFerren, David Parish, and Justin Penn. Serving as honorary pallbearers were his former colleagues from the Louisiana State Legislature. He was an awesome husband, father, and grandfather. James loved to fish and hunt. Preceding James in death were his parents; Infant son; and sisters, Linda Bush and Marie Trotti. Those left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Patty Austin; daughters, Rackshon Campbell, Jammie Lovett and husband Chris; brother, Earnest Austin; six grandchildren, Brittany Lovett, Carley Austin, Layton Lovett, Allison Campbell, Shelby Lovett, Breanna Lovett and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Honoring James as pallbearers will be Danny McMellon Jr., Vagie Lynn “Bubba” Lovett, John David Toney, Kelly Lovett, Ernie Austin, Jr., and Trey Martone. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Trenton Bossier, Christopher Lovett, Layton Lovett, and Carter Grissom. The family would like to give a special Thank You to Mansfield Dialysis Center for their care and support.

Mansfield, LA – Graveside services for Edward Earl “Eddie” Airhart will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield, LA with Dr. Bruce Mitchell officiating. Mr. Airhart, 68, of West Monroe, passed from this life, Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He was a native of Mansfield, Louisiana, and a 1968 graduate of Mansfield High School as well as a graduate of University of Monroe with a bachelors and master’s degree in Psychology. Ed enjoyed working with clients both in Texas and Louisiana as well as reading and visiting with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Churchman Airhart; his parents, Claude T. Airhart, Sr. and Helen E. Airhart and a nephew, David Airhart. Those left cherish his memory include a brother, Claude Timothy Airhart, and wife, Mun; sisters, Juanita A. Mitchell and husband, Bruce; and Cathy Airhart Webb as well as five nephews. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 7329 Hwy 509, Mansfield, LA 71052 or Ouachita Parish Public Library, Ouachita Valley Branch in West Monroe, LA 71291.

Ann Jowell Woods

MANSFIELD, LA --Ann Jowell Woods passed away on August 31, 2018 after a brief illness. She was proceeded in death by her mother Irene Halbert Tatum, father Harold Jowell, husband R.V. “Fats” Woods, and daughter Susan Kay Woods. She is survived by her two children Lee Woods and Lauri Woods, granddaughter Stephanie Deroche and husband Jeremy, granddaughter Megan Edel, husband Dennis, and two great grandchildren Xander and Zenya Edel. Ann graduated from Mansfield High School and attended Sam Houston State University as well as Louisiana State University at Shreveport. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield where she shared her voice as part of the chancel choir every Sunday. One of her hobbies was gardening and at one time she served as President of the Mansfield Garden Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and researching family genealogy. Through both her father’s and her mother’s family she was officially recognized by the State of Texas as one of the “First Families of Texas”. She was also quite proud to be a Daughter of the American Revolution. Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield on September 22nd at 10 AM. A celebration of life service will be held at 11. Don Foster Jones

MANSFIELD, LA-- A memorial service honoring the life of Don Foster Jones was celebrated at True Vine Nursery, 807 Highway 522, Mansfield, Louisiana on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. Officiating were Dr. Thumper Miller and Rev. Donnie Vercher. Visitation was Friday, September 7, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at Rose Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield, Louisiana. Don was born October 31, 1943 in Mansfield, Louisiana and passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, September 1, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He grew up on the family farm and spent his teenage years selling produce and peaches by the side of the road. After graduating from Mansfield High School in 1963 he attended Northwestern State University but left college to take over his family’s farming operation when his father passed away in 1967. He was a lifelong resident of Desoto Parish and served in the National Guard. Don was a hard working dairy farmer for many years in Desoto Parish. He and his wife Jo Anne worked together on the dairy farm and were a great team. He was a past president of the Desoto Parish Farm Bureau and served on the Board of the Louisiana Farm Bureau. Later in life he and his son Huel owned and operated True Vine Nursery, which continues in business today. He grew up in Antioch Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church, Mansfield at the time of his death, where he served as a deacon. Don is preceded in death by his parents T. Huel and Leah Jones; his brother David Jones; his nephew Chris Hunter; and a whole lot of loving dogs, most of whom were named Ruff or Jack. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Jo Anne Wortham Jones; his son Huel Jones and wife Christie of Mansfield, Louisiana; his sisters Martha Hunter and husband Dean of Marietta, Georgia and Mary Dark and husband Tom of Shreveport, Louisiana; his grandson Christopher Jones. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all those who helped Don during his last years, especially his caregivers LaSharra Johnson, Sherry Ashton and Michael Simpson. Don never met a stranger and had many wonderful friends who loved and cared for him. Honoring the life of Don as pallbearers were Jordan Jones, Robert Alexandra, Robert Davidson, Jack Baron, Chris Jones, Steve Jones, John Wortham and Bubba English. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Leon McQueen, Dax Decell, Richie Burford, Wendall Waxham, Chuck Griffin and Curtis Prudhome. Robert B. Flores, 62, of Grand Cane, Louisiana, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at his residence. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2018, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Ronnie McClellan and Bro. Pat Cobb officiating. Interment followed at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Mr. Flores was born September 9, 1955, in Mansfield, Louisiana, to Joseph “Joe” B. Flores and Joyce Wilson Flores. He graduated from Mansfield High School and went on to work in the oilfield, acquiring various certifications in the industry. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, refurbishing “junk”, and watching LSU Football. Mr. Flores was a Lifetime NRA Member and was also a member of Gloster Baptist Church in Gloster, Louisiana. He is survived by wife of 31 wonderful years, Cherrie Cook- Flores of Grand Cane, Louisiana; daughters, Jessica Horwitch and husband David of Los Angeles, California, Michelle Flores of Denver, Colorado; very close stepson, Derek Deas of Stonewall, Louisiana; granddaughter, Annabelle Horwitch of Los Angeles, California; brother and sisters, Randy Flores, Debbie Banks, Sharron Cook, Darla Turner and husband, Ray; mother-in-law, Carol Iris Cook of Grand Cane, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Christian Cook of Keatchie, Louisiana; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; a host of friends; faithful companions, Mr. Tux and Rocky. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph “Joe” B. Flores and Joyce Wilson Flores; father-in-law, Charles M. Cook; nephew, Christopher Banks. Pallbearers were Christian Cook, Ray Turner, Scott Kelley, Glenn Wayne Kelley, Colton Cobbs and Dwayne Restivo. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Sebren, Mel Cox, Bennie Cox, Albert Stoma, Blake McCullough and Bobby “Hootie” Henderson. A special thanks to Kathy Thomas for her love and generosity and St. Joseph’s Hospice for their compassionate care.
